about

Music For Isolation (Suite) is an expanded 9-track version of the original 4-track EP, which was first released in March 2020. It has been fully remastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri and is now available as a 6-panel CD digipak, as well as the usual digital/streaming formats. All listeners who bought the original digital version here on Bandcamp have been upgraded to the expanded edition, free of charge.

------------

A year ago to the day, I released the Music For Isolation EP. It was written very quickly, during those terrible early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Obviously, the world has changed dramatically since, with unspeakable numbers of lives lost. No doubt many of you reading this have faced grief during the last year. It's one thing to read about worldwide pandemics from history books, but it's something else entirely to live through one.

Returning to the music 12 months later, I take solace in the fact that we're hopefully approaching the end of it, with those elusive lights now flickering on the horizon. I read a beautiful review of the original EP by a DJ/producer named Yasmean, whose words perfectly encapsulated my intentions with this work. I have quoted it below and in many ways, her words encouraged me to revisit the music and close the book on it. Through the hard work and selflessness of our brightest people, this dark chapter in our lives will eventually come to an end. I remain hopeful for what the future may bring. Perhaps through the misery of the last 12 months, it has also given us a once in a lifetime opportunitity for self-reflection and growth. Let's see what we do with it.

"I have been alone most of the year and I have taken the time to find myself and set the record straight about myself. During these moments of introspection, I vividly remember this album being on heavy rotation day'n'night because it checked all the boxes for me in terms of context, nature, genre and intention. I remember myself letting go of every fear I had at that moment while playing it in my headphones. Ambient and soundscapes are phenomenal for this. I remember cooking, cleaning, meditating, showering, running errands with it. I've never got bored of it 'til this day because at the end of the day, it's not ‘another ambient release’, it was needed for me. I keep playing it whenever I want to be in a better mood or just to feel a bit safer during these times. I figured out a way to find myself in an uncertain chaos and this album made me focus and made everything feel less terrible. Ambient has always been a source of fullness, wholeness and calm for me; and even more so during isolation. This album marked six long and challenging months of my life and I am grateful for it."
